REGIONAL INNOVATION POWER

In the region southwest of Germany´s capital Berlin – where Schmitz One Seven GmbH is headquartered – firefighting technology has an almost 150-year history. Numerous companies have been located here and even today the firefighting industry with manufacturers, suppliers, and research and training facilities is a fundamental sector of the economy.

Within the nationwide funding program "WIR!" the regional initiative "Fire Brigade of the Future" was created in which Schmitz One Seven GmbH is involved. The goal of “Fire Brigade of the Future” is to bundle the regional existing competencies in firefighting technology and to combine them strategically with scientific expertise. Test fields are to be set up in order to develop innovative solutions in firefighting technology as well as new extinguishing methods and agents. The main focus is on fighting vegetation fires (which have become increasingly devastating in recent years) and extinguishing electrical fires in e-cars, photovoltaic systems and wind farms.

"WIR! - Change by Innovation in the Region” is a funding program of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The aim is to give an impulse for new regional alliances and sustainable innovation-based structural change in various regions throughout Germany.
